Okahu Merlot/Cabernet 2006

The fruit from this wine came from the Okahu Estate vineyards and shows in the characters of this wine. Its soft, supple and velvety fruits provide an elegant palate that is lifted on the finish with fine grained tannin from 12 month maturation in French and American Oak.

Aroma

Smoky oak, cigar box and tobacco liven the senses; this is followed by rich dark fruit, aromas of Blackberry and Raspberry, and a slightly spicy nuance.

Palate

A warm and generous mouthfeel,Smooth sweet and weighty tannins are balanced perfectly by Dark Cherries, Berries Blackcurrants and black olives, the finish is dense and structured with a lingering memory of liquorice and warm, rich tannins.

Food Match

Rack of lamb, with a mustard crust or Coc-a-vin, Served with roast vegetables, including parsnips, kumura and potato or, A big T Bone Steak, smothered in mushroom sauce.
