Okahu Merlot 2005

Grapes for this Merlot were sourced from Hawkes Bay and Hand picked into 20kg bins which were then transported in a chilled truck to the winery here in Kaitaia. Once the grapes arrived they were processed into small fermenting vessels and handled by our winemaking team to produce this fantastic example of a Merlot. It’s soft, Supple and velvety fruits provide and elegant palate that is lifted on the finish with fine grained tannin from 12 months maturation in French and American Oak.

Aroma

Dark berries, plums and rich chocolate Dominate, Leather, Cigar box and spice give it a depth enticing you for more.

Palate

Smooth soft tannins create a dense mouthfeel, rich dark fruits and bramble take over and are finished by a pleasant spicyness.

Food Match

Rack of lamb, with a mustard crust or Coc-a-vin, Served with roast vegetables, including parsnips, kumura and potato or, A big T Bone Steak, smothered in mushroom sauce.
