At Okahu we believe that Chambourcin displays its best when presented with a long dry veraison, and the opportunity to reach optimum ripeness. The conditions prevailed in 2014 in the Far North, resulting in this exceptional example of this unique wine.
Dark plum and ripe cherries lead to christmas cake or plum pudding with brandy vapours. Its structured with underlying leather and forest floor characters. Rich and earthy promises.
A nice soft/sweet entry, leading to ripe, dark enticing berry fruit, rich and spicy. Its got the “Cassius clay” punch, with a big hit of lingering dark rich tannins and that memory of the long hot summer.
Anything gamey, Turkey, wild pork, duck or hare. A rich braised ox tail casserole, to complement the big earthy flavours.
Silver - San Francisco International Wine Awards, 2016
