The People

Okahu Estate is made up of a group of dedicated people passionate about wine making in the far north of New Zealand

The owner and managing director, Monty Knight is the pioneer of the renaissance of wine making in Northland, following on from the legacy established by Croatian settlers in the early 1900’s. Read More.

Alan Collinson, our Wine maker, commenced work at Okahu Estate in 1998 to “help out” in the vineyard at vintage. Working under then wine maker, Michael Bendit, Alan developed a strong interest in wine and worked as a cellar hand for a couple of years. Read More.

Jennifer Bound our Consultant wine maker was born in Gisborne, has lived in Hawkes Bay and consequently has wine coursing through her blood.Jennifer and partner Ben Johnston have their own brands, Manaia and Lava Rock and also run the Farnorth Winecentre. Read More.

Joe Lewer is our vineyard manager who has been with us since 1992, and has mastered the full gambit of pruning, training, spraying and harvesting grapes. Read More.
